The Bonneville | Austin, TX | Chris Hurley | Jennifer Costello

Chris Hurley & Jennifer Costello bring American Spirited Contemporary Cuisine to the Heart of Texas.

Chris Hurley & Jennifer Costello make up the dynamic husband & wife team of Austin’s new Second Street District restaurant, The Bonneville. Originally from Massachusetts & Canada respectively; the two studied, trained and met while living in Boston. They worked in the culinary circuit for over a decade, all the while dreaming about creating their own restaurant concept one day. And so, when the opportunity presented itself, they left their roots, their family & friends, as well as the Northeast and made their move to Austin, Texas to start their own restaurant.

The Bonneville name stems from the American Spirit of the Bonneville Salt Flats : an established frontier explored in the 1830s, where reinvention was sought and boundaries challenged. And so, like the flats, The Bonneville restaurant reflects its natural aesthetic, and executes a new take on familiar food, to achieve a classic yet contemporary culinary style.

The Bonneville’s concept is to take the hallmarks of fine dining and bring it down to a local feel. Chris & Jenn’s priority is to access the highest quality product and locally sourced ingredients and combine that with a scene and sense that evokes a casual but quality dining experience.

The natural light that pours in on three sides of the restaurant fills the space beautifully. From the moment you enter, you’re overcome with a stunning space with an open aired, loft- like, interior setting, with beautiful accents of salty blue walls; pale sandy decorations adorning the pillars; and comfortable dining settings lining the windows and walls. Not to mention a stunning bar welcoming all the guests that the busy Second Street Distract attracts … and that bar is the perfect place to have a cocktail or two, or simply stay for a while.

The large oversized windows allow diners to see scenes of downtown Austin, as well as the beauty of Town Lake. And it also allows those from the outside a chance to peek inside and see the feast on the tables. In all, the architecture and interiors are simple, yet unique. And you could say the same about the food.

Chris Dalaku manages the cocktail program at The Bonneville and has designed it to mimic the simplicity of the food,  but keeping it interesting enough to make guests think twice about just which one to order. {Trust me, it took a while for me to decide!} Opting for the title of “bartender” instead of “mixologist,” The Bonneville bartenders do just that: they tend the bar, know the cocktails well and take care of their guests with an approachable and proper service. Their classic cocktails are driven with a craft twist and guests can order traditional cocktails, as well as indulge in inventive signature cocktails.

Be sure to stop by if you’re in Austin and say hello to Chris, Jenn and their wonderful team! Enjoy a cocktail at the bar, try the special and don’t forget about their desserts, you’ll want to keep room for them! Enjoy!
