The General Muir? What’s the General Muir? More like what isn’t The General Muir
The General Muir is a Deli serving fresh bagels & pastries, a full bar with house made tinctures along with a full coffee selection and finally a restaurant open for breakfast, lunch and dinner – seven days a week.
Where to start? I’ll start with the Deli. Pastry Chef Lauren Raymond stays busy making bagels daily along with the very popular Black & White cookie. Other treats include Rugelach, Cheesecake, Noodle Kugel. The deli also serves sandwiches, salads and soups.
Chef Todd Ginsberg describes the cuisine as simple modern American influenced by the deli.Todd’s favorite item on the menu is the Rueben. He then tells me it takes 10-12 days to make the corned beef. Reuben – corned beef, sauerkraut, Russian dressing, gruyere on buttered rye. It’s no surprise that this is a big seller at General Muir.
When I asked owner Ben Johnson about the inspiration for the décor. His response was that they wanted a classic look. They took their inspiration from the New York subway-white subway tiles and green arches and French brasseries-brass & dark wood. The look achieved inviting and familiar.
